      <image:title>My Approach - My approach…</image:title>
<image:caption>The most important thing I want you to know about who I am and how I work as a counselor is that I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the most important thing about therapy. If we don’t have that connection, then it’s so much harder to do the life transforming work that can happen in the therapy room. This approach is shaped by knowing my own struggles to rise up out of the mud… I do this work because I’ve been there, and I have always appreciated therapists who were able to be “real” with me rather than cold, distant, and humorless. I try to be as genuine as I can. What you see in my office is what you would see in my everyday life. I am a deeply compassionate, empathetic person who holds sacred the trust you place in me to share this journey to healing with you. I strive to offer a space where you feel seen, understood, and accepted for where you are right now and while also supporting you in growing toward where you want to be. I also love to use humor in my work and can often be heard making off beat comments in session to help shake things up when we’re stuck.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Approach - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing</image:title>
<image:caption>I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based approach to addressing and reprocessing traumatic memories. I often describe traumatic memories as “ice cubes” in your brain—they’re frozen in time and when they are activated, it feels like the past is happening again in the present. EMDR utilizes your brain’s innate capabilities to “melt the ice cube” (with support from me when processing gets stuck) to bring relief from the distress associated with these memories. EMDR doesn’t require you to retell details of your story and it helps us heal the root of what’s causing your suffering. My EMDR trainer is EMDRIA certified. You can read more about EMDR here. I have additional training in Attachment-Focused EMDR and using EMDR to address dissociative disorders with Ego State Therapy.</image:caption>

      <image:title>My Approach - Dialectical Behavior Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>I am also trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), an evidence-based approach that combines structured behavioral skill building with individual therapy that focuses on integrating change and acceptance to help people gain mastery in managing the ups and downs of life. DBT focuses on developing skills in the following 4 areas: Mindfulness Distress Tolerance Emotion Regulation Interpersonal Effectiveness I have extensive experience teaching DBT skills groups and providing individual DBT therapy in comprehensive DBT programs. You can read more about DBT here.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Insurance - Insurance Terms To Know</image:title>
<image:caption>Co-pay/Co-insurance A co-pay is the dollar amount (usually a flat fee) that you must pay per medical visit (typically for in-network services). Co-insurance is similar to a co-pay, but co-insurance rates are determined by percentage. Co-insurance payments may apply to services you need even after you meet your deductible. Deductible: The amount of money you are required to pay in a year before your insurance company will start helping with expenses. Most plans have different deductibles for in-network and out-of-network services. In-Network/Out-of-Network: In-network: An in-network healthcare provider has agreed to a contract with an insurance company where the provider will serve customers of the insurance company at a reduced rate. Out-of-network: An out-of-network provider is not under contract with an insurance company. Typically, this means that clients are required to cover the full fee for services up front. Consumers can often be partially reimbursed for many out-of-pocket services by requesting that their healthcare provider share a "Superbill" with their insurance company.</image:caption>

<image:title>About - I will get to my qualifications and background in counseling in a minute, but first…</image:title>
<image:caption>I imagine you have a couple of questions before you will feel comfortable reaching out: a) How do I know this lady will get me? and B) What inspired her to become a therapist? The answer to both those questions are related. I do this work because I’ve been there. I know what it’s like to be lost in the darkness, feeling hopeless about ever finding the way out. I understand what it’s like to work through the most traumatic and painful experiences of your life. I do this work to “pay it forward” in an expression of gratitude for the support I received in finding my way out of the darkness. Now, don’t get me wrong, we won’t just follow the path I made for myself. Everyone’s journey is different so every map out of the darkness and pain is different. What I can offer is that we will find yours together. You don’t have to do it alone. Some Fun Facts: I went to art school before I decided to become a therapist. You can see some of my paintings in my office. My favorite mediums are acrylic paint and clay, and I especially enjoy working with color and form to express emotion. I am a life long cat lady and lover of animals. Now for the more formal stuff.</image:caption>
