Hi! I’m Jennifer…
Life can feel overwhelming at times. You may be struggling with anxiety, feeling stuck in old patterns, navigating a major life transition, processing past experiences, or trying to better understand yourself and your relationships. Whatever brings you to counseling, you don't have to face it alone.
Hi, I’m Jennifer. I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern from Catawba College. I believe healing begins in spaces where people feel genuinely seen, heard, and accepted. I view therapy as a collaborative and deeply human process, where you are the guide of your own stories and experiences. I believe you already hold wisdom about yourself, and my role is to walk alongside you with curiosity, compassion, and support as you navigate growth, healing, and change.
I strive to create a warm, open, and nonjudgmental environment where trust can develop naturally and you feel safe exploring your emotions, relationships, identities, and life experiences at your own pace. I strive to see you as a whole person—not just a set of symptoms or a diagnosis. I recognize that your culture, identities, relationships, spirituality, and lived experiences all shape your mental health and well-being. My goal is to create a space where you feel respected, empowered, and accepted exactly as you are.
My approach to counseling is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to your unique needs. While I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you understand how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another, I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing. Together, we'll explore patterns that may no longer be serving you, build practical coping skills, and identify meaningful changes that align with your values and goals. When it feels helpful, I incorporate mindfulness and meditation practices to support greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and a stronger connection to the present moment. I also acknowledge that many of the challenges people face are influenced by larger systems and experiences of discrimination, oppression, or marginalization. Rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?" I believe it's often more helpful to ask, "What has happened to you?" and "How have your experiences shaped the way you move through the world?" I approach our work together with curiosity, cultural humility, and a commitment to honoring your strengths while supporting your healing and growth.
I enjoy working with adults from diverse backgrounds, including LGBTQIA+ clients, and I am particularly interested in supporting individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, stress management, identity exploration, and life transitions.
My passion for mental health work is both personal and professional. My own experiences with mental health, along with supporting and caring for family members through mental health crises, have deeply shaped the way I show up in this field. Those experiences taught me the importance of empathy, patience, advocacy, and having spaces where people feel supported rather than judged. They continue to ground my belief that healing happens through connection, authenticity, and compassionate care.
Outside of counseling and graduate school, I’m a mom to a human, a dog, and a growing collection of plants. I love gardening, hiking, and going to concerts, along with anything that helps me reconnect with nature, joy, and community. I would be honored to begin this journey with you.
I invite you to reach out for a free 15-minute phone consultation to explore whether working together feels like a meaningful fit.
I currently offer telehealth counseling services to individuals located anywhere in North Carolina. Limited in-person services are available upon request for those in the Winston-Salem area.
